This project proposes a subterranean addition to the existing Fisher Museum of Art and its surrounding area.

After examining the various ways of navigating through the subterranean space of the Harris Courtyard on USC's campus, the idea of wrapping around a periphery and a center emerged as a spacial concept. In the first instance an interior liner mirrors the new excavated courtyard. Nested within the space, an entry point and ramp are placed in between the retaining walls and new liner, creating an extended threshold experience. The second instance introduces a new light well carved through Fisher Museum of Art, funneling daylight into the new Basement Gallery, while a new stairway wraps around the void light well, connecting the new underground galleries.
