ENDEAVOUR SPACE SHUTTLE EXHIBITION

The Space Shuttle Exhibition addition is an attempt at incorporating the surrounding context of the California Science Museum, while maintaining the individuality and significance of the Endeavour space shuttle. Capitalizing on individuality, the building is elevated above a subterranean courtyard. The courtyard acts as a threshold environment between the entrance of the exhibit and public space. In a direct route, patrons of the building follow a sequence that begins at the subterranean level, ascends to the top level via an escalator, and descend back down to the subterranean courtyard through a series of carved out spaces. This sequence allows museum goers to maintain a focused and mysterious route that allows users to seamlessly meander towards a timeless destination.
